Lake Tuggeranong College is a government school, one of eight such secondary colleges in Canberra, administered by the Education Department of the Australian Capital Territory (A.C.T) Government. Lake Tuggeranong College accepts around 450 year 11 students each year, and is able to offer a range of curriculum options for all students, from those wishing to enter the most challenging universtiy courses to those who have come to us from special education schools.

The College is structured more on university lines, as there are few rules other than attendance, there is no real dress code, and no expectation that students are on campus if they do not have a class.

The ACT government does not allow schools to set compulsory fees, however the College Board suggests a voluntary contribution which includes a base sum of $180 per year. Around 60% of students pay this figure. Students are requested to pay a materials fee for those subjects where it is appropriate.

Students generally enrol in 5 or 6 subjects, which are classified as to whether or not they constitute formal pre-tertiary training. If they have that T classification, students are ranked in the subject as explained in the assessment section. Other courses are appropriate for training for the work force, or for enrichment
