Outdoor Education

If you have an interest in the areas of the outdoors and the environment this course is for you. Outdoor Education gives you the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in a wide range of outdoor pursuits and to develop responsible attitudes and behaviours when using all environments. It also develops important social and interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, decision making and leadership.
All units have a theoretical and a practical component. There are multi-day excursions associated with all units and you are
expected to participate in these. The course assumes no prior knowledge, yet provides challenges for all students. Each unit has a large practical component that includes an overnight camp. There are costs associated with each activity but they are generally kept to a minimum.
Outdoor Education provides the opportunity to learn new skills in amazing outdoor environments and it is a good way of making new friends. The course should be undertaken by anyone considering a future in the Outdoor Recreation Industry or those who wish to acquire the skills necessary for leading an active life in the outdoors. It is possible to do a major-minor in this course.
Course Patterns
The course is not sequential, however you must complete the Introductory Unit, Foundations in Outdoor Education.
Prerequisites: Some introductory units are prerequisites for the more advanced units
