Physical Education

Lake Tuggeranong College has a quality teaching staff and access to quality resources, both within the college and the community at large. The area offers a wide choice of courses guaranteed to challenge any student.

Physical Education    (A)
Physical Education contributes to the development of the whole person through knowledge and skills relating to physical activity. In doing so it promotes creativity, social, emotional and physical growth. Emphasis is placed on the encouragement of an active and healthy lifestyle, based on sound practical and theoretical knowledge.

This course enables students to pursue their interests and enjoyment of physical activity. It caters for all skill levels and physical abilities.

This course is not sequential.  Students are permitted to enrol into units prior to the commencement of each term.

Course costs: Yes.  Minimal costs may be associated with excursions to various sporting facilities.

Sports Science    (T/A) 
If you are interested in how the human body works, human performance, fitness and physical activity, then you should elect to study this course. Sports Science is an academic course with a practical application geared towards the science of movement. It is highly recommended for those who wish to enter into further studies in the fields of paramedical science, teaching, nursing, physiotherapy, chiropractic, nutrition, occupational therapy, strength and conditioning, human movement, sports medicine, sports coaching, community fitness and recreation, and other allied areas in applied anatomy and physiology.

This course examines the structure and function of the human body, it’s responses to training, learning and performance and many other topical issues that are related to human performance and physical activity. Emphasis is on the theoretical components with the inclusion of practical laboratories.

Lake Sport    (R)
This course is designed to provide you with an opportunity to participate in sport as a timetabled subject at the College.  It is an exciting program aimed at students seeking to further their development in one (or more) of the areas listed below.  It is not aimed at elite level athletes.   All courses are highly practical in content and may include programs focussing on fitness, individual and team skills, coaching and refereeing experience where appropriate.  All units offered are registered units and form part of the College timetable.  Recognition of hours spent outside College hours is also possible.


The following sports are currently on offer in the Lake Sport Program.
Golf
Course inclusions:  Rules / etiquette, fitness, practice routine, golf basics, short game and full swing.

Soccer
Course inclusions:  Skills & drills, fitness, minor games, match strategy, competition format, refereeing.

Rowing
Course inclusions:  Technique instruction, Safety procedure, fitness program, morning coaching sessions, regattas.
