The Parents and Citizens' Association
The Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is a vital avenue for parent participation and support. During the year the P&C Association provides support for the College and student body through the provision of funds to assist the College with activities such as end of year graduation and prizes. The P&C also provides ongoing support for the Community Program and the operations of the College Canteen.
Dear Parents/Carers
Our College’s income is derived from two main sources - ACT Government Funding and your Contributions. In addition to salary, building construction and maintenance costs the government provides us with a CPI indexed $147 per student per year. This CPI amount represents 66% of the funds allocated to faculties for spending on educational requirements. The other 34% comes from your generous contributions.
Parental contributions fall into two main categories:
a) General Contribution (currently $180 per year if paid annually, $280 for two years, or periodic payments can be arranged by contacting the Finance Secretary). The money raised from these contributions provides a significant proportion of the funds for tied grants. Tied grants are for the purchase of text books, items of equipment required in faculty areas, computer hardware and software, and sporting equipment.
b) Course Costs (paid per semester for individual courses). These payments pay for basic consumable items used by students in some practical areas eg: food and living, various technology units (automotive, metal, technology), and art units (ceramics, art, photography).
Students and parents are provided with information on the cost associated with each unit before students choose them each semester. Without the payments of these costs it would not be possible to provide the range of units offered at the College. It also needs to be recognised that many of the units available to students each semester have no cost attached to them at all. A list of units which need the support of Course Cost Payments to run is attached.
While contributions are voluntary, in the interests of equity we encourage participation by all parents in the raising of funds for the continued progress of the College. Whatever level of contribution you choose to make its payment will enable the College Board to confidently commit funds throughout the year to the purchase of items and the support of programs.
Over the past fifteen years Lake Tuggeranong has established and maintained its excellent reputation. Students continue to respond positively to the College’s supportive and caring environment and to the extensive range of educational opportunities which the College provides. As parents we can assist the College maintain these high standards and provide quality resources for students by paying the general contributions and course cost payments. This money goes directly into providing resources for the educational program.
We recognise that some people may wish to pay the contributions by instalments. This can be arranged by contacting the Finance Officer on 6205 6222. If you wish to discuss any concerns you may have regarding parental contributions, please contact the Principal, John See or a Deputy Principal.
Historically, the financial support of the College and its students by parents has been outstanding and your anticipated support is greatly appreciated.
An Invitation from the College Board and the P&C Association
As we begin another exciting year at Lake Tuggeranong College the Board would like to extend a warm invitation to all parents and carers to consider becoming more involved in the operations of the College through the College Board or the P&C Association. The first combined Board and P&C Association meeting will be held on 7 Feb 2007 at 6:00pm. We welcome all those who wish to consider involvement, or those who would like to just come along and observe, to attend. The meetings are held every month, on the second Wednesday, during school terms. The meetings provide a good forum to hear first hand from the Principal what contemporary issues are being discussed in the College and the education system more generally.
They provide an opportunity for parents to have an input to policy making at the College and more broadly. No previous experience on school boards is necessary. What is required is an interest in the educational, vocational and social well being of our students and a desire to support the teachers and administrative staff of the College to help our students attain their best. The ACT Department of Education and Training provides all new board members with a very informative manual on their role and responsibilities as well as providing information via an information night. Being involved with the College Board and/or the P&C Association is a rewarding and enjoyable experience and we would welcome your attendance at our first meeting on 7 Feb 2007.
Board Chair and President, Community Association.
