Course delivery is flexible and subject to negotiation between the students and staff at Lake Tuggeranong College and CIT. (These courses may involve additional course costs).
Technology Projects
The College is regarded as the provider of one of the largest and most successful Technology Education based projects in Australia. The projects adopted lead you through the design, building and evaluation process of constructing ‘energy efficient’ vehicles and boats. The end focus of this is the participation in competitions such as the Solar Boat Race, Sydney to Melbourne ’Sunrace’ and the World Solar Challenge.
The projects allow you to link various scientific and mathematical concepts and principles to technology based applications. They also focus on how to develop competencies in working as a team or group, developing strategies to conserve the environment and preparing you for the future ahead. Campaigns are being developed for future events and the projects appeal to a wide variety of students at the College including Technology, Media, Physics, Photography, Computing and Automotive Technology students.
Work Experience
We strongly encourage all students to undertake Work Experience whilst at the College. Work Experience teaches you about the world of work and enables you to make informed decisions about various types of employment. Work Experience enables you to make connections between school and future work. Demonstrated interest including work experience is now a prerequisite for many CIT courses.
Placements for Work Experience are generally available at the end of each semester to avoid clashes with assignments and tests although it is possible to have placements as part of a course. Students can receive points on their Year 12 Certificate. Some ex-students have successfully gained employment or apprenticeships from their Work Experience placements. If you are interested in Work Experience see the Careers Office for more information.
Private International Students
Lake Tuggeranong College is proud of the multicultural nature of its student population. If you are a student from overseas, we can advise you on the best choice of courses and levels for your needs - whether you are planning to study at an Australian University, enter CIT or return home having been enriched with the experience of living in Australia.
Our specialised English as a Second Language course will help you to improve your English language and study skills in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. Extra help is also provided in the form of tutorials which are held at regular times each week or by appointment with several teachers experienced in dealing with students of non-English speaking background. Other advisers are also available to help you to adjust to your new environment and make the best decisions to achieve your academic goal as well as ensure that your time at College is a happy, productive one.
Depending on the standard of your English, you may enrol in English as a Second Language (see the entry under this course name) or Bridging Intensive English.
Bridging Intensive English Program
This R course is designed for:
- students who have newly arrived in the College system
- those students doing T or A courses who need extra assistance in order to cope with mainstream classes.
This flexible course is designed around modules suitable for individual learning styles, as well as more structured units, which are taught non-sequentially. Work is developed according to the needs of particular groups of students.
All modules of work cover areas of grammatical understanding and vocabulary development (according to the needs of the particular group) as well as modules of basic research and listening/viewing. The latter modules deal more extensively with developing basic research skills which can be transferred to ESL T studies.
Students study either one or two lines of Bridging English, and upon satisfactory performance, drop these while maintaining ESL at either A or T level. In addition, the ESL Tutorial aims to assist students in the English aspects of their major subject work.
