Work and Society
Work and Society is an accredited double major course designed to provide opportunities for students to gain the skills necessary to make a smooth transition to post school options, such as CIT and the workplace. The course is an alternative to Mathematics A and English A and has a strong focus on the areas of social issues, Australian society, employabilityskills, community structures and career pathways.
Course Pattern
In this course you take two classes each semester.
Year 11:
• Community Literacy; Workskills Maths.
• Australian Lifestyle; Geometry at Work.
• Career Pathways; Numeracy at Work.
Year 12:
• Living and Participating in a Community; Financial Lifestyle.
• Skills for Employment; Personal Finance.
• Seeking and Securing Employment; Statistics at Work
The course is taught by two teachers acting as a team with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Work Experience is a mandatory component of the course with students participating in a variety of work environments.
